The art of map design has changed dramatically since it’s origins in the ancient times. Of, course, the reasons for needing maps has changed just as dramatically as well in the expanse of years… Back then, maps were almost nearly only needed for strategic military reasons. The importance of having a detailed map could mean the difference between defending your country and land, or making a shortcut to cut off the enemy army. Ambushes, defense placements, and locations of bridges and towns all played a much more defensive aspect in the making of maps. No question, it was all a bit more, shall we say, exciting back then?
