Food poisoning is not a fun thing to experience in the least little bit.  The cramping and diarrhea, the nausea and vomiting associated with it are bad enough, but the effects that come from those symptoms, such as severe dehydration, are what can really get a person into serious trouble.  Making sure that your food is cooked thoroughly  and that all food preparation is done on a disinfected surfaces are the best preventions of being infected with the salmonella bacteria, which is often the cause of food poisoning.  The use of a high quality hand disinfectant on a regular basis can also be of benefit.
