A small chicken coop is a smaller structure built to shelter chicken. Whether it is for your poultry business or for family needs, you should know the important features that a chicken coop should have. Basic materials needed in constructing a chicken coop are wood, straw and chicken wire.

The first step to building a chicken coop is to draw the initial design on a piece of paper. In designing the structure, also write down the materials to be used and make sure that they are easy to find. The structure should have adequate doors and windows for good ventilation and for protection against predators. Also include chicken feeders, water and source of sunlight in your design. The chicken coop should be accessible for regular cleaning and disinfecting.

The materials are quite inexpensive and you can let your creativity run free to make a beautiful, fully-functional home for your chickens.
