New research shows that we may be able to listen to music for lower cholesterol. Lots of people know that relaxing music can lower blood pressure but now it appears that it can also reduce the so-called bad cholesterol.

Listening to music does both of these because because it expands blood vessels. Research subjects showed a 26% expansion of blood vessels in their upper arms. This reduces blood pressure and also prevents the buildup of clots and LDL cholesterol.

The expansion happens because listening to music releases nitric oxide into the blood stream. Nitric oxide is a gas produced by cells that regulates blood flow. Pharmaceutical companies are studying how they can reproduce this effect but there are many ways, such as listening to music and slow breathing, that produce nitric oxide naturally.
