Younger people tend to look down on wearing clothes and accessories they see as stuffy and old-fashioned. Thus, wearing coat and ties, including the appurtenances attached therein like mens cufflinks, studs, ties and tie-holders, are seen as just another way for their folks to impose on them their will. For this reason, youngsters avoid whenever they can wearing such attire. Only if it is absolutely necessary, perhaps on threats of being grounded, would kids oblige their parents wishes. This need not be so- if only the kids are given options, or at least a say, on the clothes and accessories -they would not be that antagonistic.
